Concrete Finishing

1. CONCRETE POLISHING

Polished concrete floor surface is made by a mechanical process of grinding and polishing with the help of a penetrant chemical to provide different texture. The polishing of concrete is a multi-step process which requires specialized tools and equipment.

The chemical penetrant employed for polishing is called as hardener. The construction process, features and the benefits of making polished concrete are explained below.

Benefits of Polished Concrete:

  • High durability
  • Creates non-slippery surface as it has a high coefficient of friction
  • Low maintenance
  • Insect attack and mold growth are not encouraged.
  • Helps improve natural lighting
  • Use the existing materials for construction, hence are sustainable
  • Polished concrete can be easily cleaned by water or neutral cleaners
  • Polished concrete can withstand extreme industrial environments
  • The concrete surface is improved by polishing
  • The appearance of the concrete surface is improved
  • 3D forms can be easily achieved by concrete polishing compared with natural stone.

2. POWER TROWELLING FOR CONCRETE

Power trowels are used to smooth and finish poured concrete before it is fully dry, so timing is a critical element in how your finished product will turn out. Air temperature, humidity and wind can all affect how quickly or slowly your concrete will dry, so rather than using a prescribed wait time, use this trick to check if your concrete is ready to be finished with your power trowel.

A good test is to simply step onto the slab then step off. If the footprint you leave is 1/8-inch or less, the concrete is firm enough to begin troweling. If your footprint is deeper than 1/2" or has a significant amount of water in it, it's too early to start the finishing process and you will need to wait for the concrete to dry a bit more.

3. CEMENTITIOUS SELF LEVELING

A perfectly even and smooth floor substrate surface plays an important role in the final result and life span of the floor, no matter what kind of floor covering will be installed over it. The self- leveling compounds whose outstanding performance has been proven in construction projects with high requirements, ranging from house use to fork lift truck loads in industry.

Areas of Application:

As an underlay for Floor coverings (Epoxy coating, carpet, vinyl, PVC, rubber, engineered wood flooring).
